I’m doing the most intense coding right now. Requiring most of my mental focus. Network code is really hard. I had to create a flow chart in Powerpoint just to illustrate what is happening between the two computers connected.

    1. When you use power point as a coding tool, you know you are off the beaten track.

    2. Could you show us that flowchart?

    3. curious

Couldn’t you just drawn the chart on paper?

    4. flowchart is not programming rofl

    5. Hey Michal,

Do you wanna talk to me a bit about some networking concepts? I’ve spent a few years working on something extremely similar (2d, real time, shooter) and IMO I have a pretty great net system. It’s based on Half-Life’s networking model which I find to be quite good, with some tweaks to make it better (under some conditions).

It would probably take half an hour to knowledge transfer the lessons and ideas I’ve gained over those years. If you don’t like it, you can ignore it.

      Lemme know, cya!

    6. I feel your pain. It took me quite a bit more work that I thought it would to ‘get it right’ as well for a project I’m working with.

I think stepping back and identifying the roles of the clients, servers, peers is time well spent.

      I found this very helpful:

Good luck. It is quite satisfying when it all starts to fall into place!

    7. Dmitri: sure! Facebook, gmail, irc? Can I play your game somewhere?

Greg: I’ll take a look although I’m skeptical about theoretical network systems.

    8. MM, I prefer Gmail/Gtalk and I’ve sent you a message at facebook with my gmail id.

I’ll definitely show you my game, but I don’t have a url to give you because it’s not released publicly yet (it’s not done).
