Any tips on programming when tired? I get 5 minutes of work done in 5 hours if its the case so its pointless. What can I do?

stop to program for few days.
always work
😀
Yeah.. relax for killing you now and reborn with new power XD
Don’t program when you’re tired. What’s the point of doing the 5 minutes of work. Since you were tired, you probably would have to fix it anyway. Like artwork, when you program, you need to get away from it for a little while, often. When you come back to it, you might see something, you might miss before, realize a different method for a function or even see how to improve efficiency in part of the code.
If you’re tired, it’s extremely rare that you will notice such things, since all the remaining energy you have is being focused to complete the basic task and your concentration is wasted on pushing for that task.
When I work on artwork or Flash, if I feel I’m starting to push myself, I stop and go for a walk. You should do the same. Take the dog or grab the chainsaw and go nuts on some deadwood.
If you are tired, take a nap?
Eat. I find that when I’m really tired and trying to keep myself from falling asleep at the keyboard, a little snack usually goes a long way. Grapes typically do the trick. But ultimately it turns into diminishing returns once you reach a certain point, there’s only so much the mind can do without rest.
watch porn!
He said “tired” and not “stressed”.
Turn on the light, drink an energy drink, go out and run for 5 minutes. Turn back, run another five. Do 50 pushups and drink another energy drink.
You’re all set.
Use some kind of program to block stuff that distracts you.
[ block webpages, and games/communicators ]. I was using donotdisturb, but maybe there are better programs like that.
Have a siesta, it works in spain.
moar beer
why do you work when you are tired? rest for 30 minutes( idk watch a movie on the internet or just play games) then go back to work for an hour or 2
I’m pretty sure it was rhetorical, but if you did 5 minutes works in 5 hours, you might as well sleep for 4 hours 55 minutes then do those 5 minutes of work…
Bandwagon join!
Yeah, man. just get some rest. Chill, sleep and play some video games.
power naps and energy drinks? maybe pump some iron.
careful not to get too burnt out..
oh yea and cocaine
Nothing is for free in live, you can take cocaine, go running, drink enegergy-drinks, your body will take revenge anyway. You can do some “easier” stuff when you are tired, for instance tidy up some code or your desk, that saves energy in the next day.
But i know the Problem, you want to achieve something but you body want to rest. I think the most “natural” techniqe would be to train your enduringness with sports…
I am working on my ASCII-Map-Editor for my game, i often go to bed and can’t fall asleep, thinking about new ideas and algorithms, being a Programmer can be a very hard job…
Do jogging or ride a bike or smth. Turn your mental exhaustion to physical. That always helps.
Turn your monitor brightness to max, turn on all the lights you got in your room, open the window, get additional lights and stop sitting comfortable. Turn on music if it doesnt annoy your neighbours…
That always works. When your room is very bright you wont get tired for many additional hours. Dont do this when you are not tired, it will decrease the effect when you are tired.
Take a cold shower, or just wash your face with cold water.
don’t code when you’re tired , just go to sleep or for a walk in the park and then sleep.
code only when your mind is clear or else we’ll end up with a shitty game and I don’t want to play a shitty game , I wanna play a game written by someone with a straight mind( at least capable of doing exactly what he wanted to do with the game, and not being deviated due to fatigue ).
Simple fix – Drink so much alchohol, until you pass-out, the when you wake up, chug 5 litres of water. Take a piss, shit, fart twice, watch some porn, then sleep again. That always works.
