Eh, Michal, people here seems really against procedural art, hehe. I don’t know; I think it can be done, and in an awesome way, but the thing is: I don’t remember any 2d game wich really did it. I expect Link-Dead be the first! 😀
And just for the sake of curiosity: even with the intended change in gameplay, you still expect to release an working version of the game by the end of this year?
wouldn’t it be possible to eventually allow procedural tile-maps as well as artist-drawn maps? I still feel that the feeling of the map back then where you showed the light-effects couldn’t be achieved without human hands, but it was so good…
cerv: people that say it cant be done really motivate me.
Working on LD and Berserker maps taught me that making a map is very mechanical and repetitive. Especially making buildings and human constructs. Those that are against procedural graphics overestimate the role of an artist in a video game like this. I can’t draw beautifully cause I’m not a trained painter but I DO KNOW how it is done. I am skilled in the knowledge how to make game graphics and it definitely can be done by an algorithm.
NooMoahk: Actually, I think yv3 was asking for a alpha of the game cited by valid, a russian game called Aventarium. Judging by the trailer, it really seems nice; I searched for a download in their website (despite the laguage barrier) but I couldn’t find anything, except for gameplay videos.
Oh heck yeah, this is what the game’s atmosphere should feel like! A lot of gray and blue, and dimmed light.
Actually, just like the background of this Devlog, i think it’s great, that’s what I imagined it like from the beginning! Lots of brown too…
No. It is Cloverfield poster.
No. It is just awsom.
Yes! This is exactly how link-dead should look like (with a touch of MM envisioning of course).
And this cant be done with procedural art.. You really need and artist!!
😀

As long as there’s no shakycam, i’m all for it.
If you are interested look at this one 2d project called Aventarium

This pic is 3 dimensional, and link-dead will be 2 dimensional. It’s teh impossible!
Jack Wade: Thats why they invented parallax backgrounds
