There was something I made by mistake when doing the first climbing animations. Instead of jumping and grabbing ledges the gostek just grabbed any wall and climbed. Like spiderman. I didn’t plan so I removed it but I’m thinking of making that a major gameplay element cause it was really fun. Link-Dead is a war in an urban environment. All soldiers would be equipped with body armor that has attached climbing tools and spikes to allow ascending all horizontal walls.

Great idea, but perhaps not all the soldiers, just some (scouts?).
Yeah, I think it should be class specific too.
scouts only or maybe only for the punks ? then the cybercops get some other better stufF, like weapons or better mechs? ( assuming its still punks vs cybercops/military ) dont forget u dont have much time left MM, before the end of this year you promised:P
lol hax
Yeah I was thinking that scouts should definitely have it. But I’m also thinking about other soldiers…
the wall climbing should definitely require an initial jump, the soldiers should not be equipped with every little accessory to make it cake for them to traverse through the environment. you might as well give them jet boots.
Maybe only allow some walls to be climbable, ex. they are sturdy enough to support the weight of the person on the wall and using tools to latch on wont break it.
Make climbing slower for some classes so that it’s risky to climb if there are foes around.
Y’know? Do it. Do whatever you want as long as you’re keeping the “coming out this year” status so that we can see what it is like in the matter of gameplay.
*doublepost excuse* And even if so, this feature should be somehow limited, like by class, some climbbar or in some other way.
Man, it would be great if one class would be able to easily climb walls, as you said, without any help, and a couple of other soldiers could only climb when having the necessary equipment, say… they get a rope with a hook, and you can throw the rope up the ledge and then climb with it.
Thats awesome, just make it class specific please, or we will have the biggest cunt’s climing walls.
Wondering if you’ll put a limit on being able to hang on a wall. I.E. As long as you’re climbing up or down, you can cling to the wall, if you stop however, you let go after x amount of seconds (unless you start climbing again). Otherwise “wall-campers” will be an upcoming term.
Noob: “I’m teh ninja-spider. I waitz for my victimz and den drop down on dems.”
Not-Noob: “Yeah, well, while you were typing that, I stuck 15 satchel charges to you and the other side of the wall. bye bye.” *click*
You mean vertical walls, right? Ascending a horizontal wall doesn’t sound too hard.
And this concept sounds pretty damn awesome.
Equipment load-outs?
Weight limits?
How about give the scouts and such the climbing equipment, and the assault classes jet packs for moving around outside.
@Snow
That’s not a problem, since camping is a legitimate tactic. Too bad some people have to coin new whining terms(I’m speaking theoretically here, not implying that you are).
NO FRIGGIN JETPACKS FOR ASSAULT CLASS DAMNIT!!! we dont want a soldat 2 😀
If it’s post apocalyptic, I doubt they’d have enough gear to share around climbing gear, so make it an unlock, or a snipers-only class or I think it should be an assault only thing as scouts/snipers would need to be light and agile and not have big heavy hooks. Assault class is the main infantry and the shock troopers, they’d need to get the the enemy as fast as possible and kill them, so climbing gear would work for them.
Maybe give them grappelling hooks instead? Like the one is “Lost Planet” which is a terrible game, but I like the ‘hook in it.
How about not only climbing wall but shooting through them 😀 ?
kosa, if correct, its under consideration for the primary release, not for the beta.
I think now that scouts should be able to climb whatever they like. Regular soldiers should use hooks and lines, that will work awesome for teamplay.
@NooMoahk, yeah, I actually agree. Camping is a legitimate tactic as I camp sometimes myself too. As long as camping is not abused in a sense. There is the odd ctf game in Soldat, where the entire enemy team camps out in the grass and bushes next to their flag.
Also, I keep forgetting that this is aimed at being a 1 vs 1 game, so if someone is camping through an entire match… they’re going to be alone quick. 😛
Snow: completely agree with you: camping is a legitimate tactic, but can’t be abused. Every tactic should have it’s ups and downs, and camping is no exception. The secret is: make it possible to camp, but not easy. You must be a good player to know how to camp, as you must be a good player to do anything. The idea of having classes pretty much solves this problem, I think: we know the snipers will camp, but if their camping spot is discovered, they’ll be pretty much dead, since they won’t have good weapons to fight head-to-head. So this balances things out.
I think there should be lots of paths to a given destination. So that a camper won’t block a passage and can be sneaked from behind, or mortared/naded from above. Camping is just sniping its a legitimate war tactic, it must be included in this game.
I don’t like this “oh, I’ll add this and this feature into the game while I am at it” development. Release early, release often and you’ve got it right.
MM, can you honestly say you can keeo your promises?
That’s a smart way of loikong at the world.
