I tought about Field-Of-View for a while and decided to give it a shot. For now this will be a server-side option and we will see how much fun is it. The implementation was easy cause I had it already coded. Just had to fix a couple bugs and add a shader to render the out-of-view map parts. Here’s a couple versions of the shader. I think the last one will be in the game.
.. And yes, that’s a new map I’m making.
Will characters out of the fov have the shader overlay on them or will this just not show up?
Nothing out of fov is shown (even light) except for a simple sketch of the map background.
I dont like FoV much.. but I will give it a try.. who knows?
btw, any plans for a new alpha release?
MM, if you add FOV in game, you need to increase a distance of view. Otherwise players will have feeling they are moles.
Hope you got what I mean.
Not a big FOV fan neither. Although I do want to give it a try with a slower paste game like link dead.
Personaly I dont like the look of it.
I prefer the grey to the totally dark ones but it dosent look link dead good yet.
I like this look from whitebear: (last post)

… love the map design !!!
Awesome, definitely a cool addition. It’s strange without Fov: seeing people though walls …
nice, when it will be available?
on the other hand, won’t that all shaders and stuff impact performance (especially for notebooks and older computers)?
Derich: yeah I know
kz: I’m finishing it, in next version, should be soon.
It drops the FPS slightly, I remember having 68fps and with fov at the same spot it’s 62fps. There’s an option to not use the shader then it’s just black or an uglier version of the dark background.
nice i personally would suggest the FOV to be server sided as well,
like in soldat with the realistic mod
Fov is a great thing.
there should be more vehicles movement
not good michał. flashlights do the exact same thing, gameplay wise. As you’ve said yourself, it’s fun to see the other players and strategize based on that, that’s what a lot of people like about soldat. if you’d like to have parts of the map that are like this, make those sections dark— then the flashlight will come into play and you can have your suspenseful f.o.v. gameplay which we enjoy as well. if you want a map that is completely like this, just make a NIGHT-TIME map. sure another player’s flashlight will reveal his position, but that happens in real-life too. also, experienced players will learn the terrain and lurk in the shadows, waiting for a flashlight noob to reveal himself and get slaughtered in the alleyway.
fair enough?
Yeah, I don’t quite like the idea either. But I’ll give it a shot.
Out of the 4 pics, I’d go for the last one, it’s the only one that looks acceptable. Making everything outside the FOV simply black-and-white looks way cooler than all of the 4 version though.
what setting will be available for fov?
