Amazing times for making games nowadays. It seems like we’re inventing some cool stuff everyday for the game now. Today we came up with a method of making 3 effects from just 1 file. Not only for backgrounds but for all sprites in the game.
The effects are:
- normal mapping
- specular highlighting
- luminance
The last one is new. It is a graphical area that is not affected by shadows. In simpler words it is stuff that glows, like little lights. For example eyes of an infrared helmet.
Graphically this game is looking astounding. What really excites me is that this is not the end cause we just started thinking about particle effects (like smoke and fire). So that will come next.
Also I managed to get network code working today. It was a tough battle but I made it. Looking at it again there are some problems with it and I need to reprogram it a bit. I made too much deviations from the original idea by Carmack. Its best to stick to the genius.
As a reminder my post about the netcode: Pump your state!
Woo! You sound like us, fans=)
\o/
man i wish it was done now……… what am i going to do while i wait. Play soldat!? HAHAHAHAHHAHHA good one… yea i probably will.
Hahah don’t build this up too much or no matter how good the game is we’ll be disappointed.
This is awesome btw.
luminence and particles, awesome : )
urban warfare is gonna be awesome
michal is it possible to make laser pointers for the weapons?
a red laser coming of the rifles when u have the night vission goggles on?
as a addon for my last comment,
is there gonna be a bitmap or graphic sheet, which appears only in a certain effect or light?
lets say there is some fog or smoke, and that is the only way to view the laserpointers without the night vision goggles,
if theres something like a search and destroy or elimination map, you could spot snipers or campers this way because of their aiming?
just an example 😛
yet again, good luck finishing the game
off topic: MM, why haven’t you posted here your great presentation?
http://blip.tv/file/1598357/
for interested, there is a translation on SoldatForums.
on topic: that sounds fantastic, show us some of this eye candy, please!
He can’t, not with the proper graphics atleast.
Siggy is too afraid that mean internet trolls say something about his artwork.
http://blip.tv/file/1598357/ translate, someone?
Great to hear that the game is going to look even better. are u planning to make any vids showing how your rendering looks right now? also i remember that youve been an enemy to all eyecandy if it’s not affecting the gameplay(total bullshit imo) what has changed?
for particle effects it would be totally awesome if all particles where reacting to wind and shock waves(like in Crysis or Killzone 2)it would be also nice to see real sparks flying around.
keep us posted and good luck.
And all this will run natively under Linux, with OpenGL?
Побольше б таких штук
This “free sharing” of inmofration seems too good to be true. Like communism.
Heh. I had a good laugh, but then I thought about it.Solarian SDs are simply targets for GA wallers, but if they can manage to sneak up on lighter units and get into their missile range before the light units know they’re there, they’ll probably obliterate destroyers and light cruisers without taking significant damage – and those are going to be the preferred commerce raiders. Now whether the ISLN will realize that and get out of its institutional mindset to make it happen soon enough to make a difference is a completely different question.
IJWTS wow! Why can’t I think of things like that?
I can’t believe you’re not playing with me–that was so helpful.
TYVM you’ve solved all my problems
